The Hyalite Reservoir area is my favorite place in Bozeman. Just driving a little bit outside of town brings you to a winding road through the Custer Gallatin National Forest. As you drive through the forest you suddenly come up on the reservoir that is backdropped with some incredibly stunning mountains behind it. Besides Hyalite offering the most beautiful views, it also contains a lot of hiking trails. One of my favorite spur of the moment adventures is to check out two fun lil waterfalls in this recreation area.

The first waterfall, Grotto Falls, is a beautiful lil hike in to a falls that makes me feel as if I'm in the movie twilight. The moss and the sunshine that peaks through the trees is just so comforting. The trail has some pretty cool scenic views of the surrounding mountains and is one of my favorite trails in the area to escape reality for a little bit. The trail is pretty relaxed being only a 2.4 mile out & back trail with an unnoticeable 300 feet elevation gain.

The second waterfall, Palisade Falls, has the most unique rock arrangement surrounding it. One thing I love about this particular trail is how accessible it is. It is around a 1.1 mile out & back trail with a little bit noticeable elevation gain of 300 feet. The whole trail up to the falls is paved and I have seen a few wheelchairs winding up the path on my many visits. Climbing around the falls area reveals some pretty cool views of the surrounding valley. I honestly recommend this falls to everyone I come across.
